Gwen Healey

Executive and Scientific Director

Dr. Gwen Healey was born and raised in Iqaluit, Nunavut and it is in this community that she continues to live and work with her family. She is the Executive and Scientific Director of the Qaujigiartiit Health Research Centre in Iqaluit, NU. Dr. Healey received her PhD in Public Health from the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto. Drawing upon existing community strengths and resources, and strengthening capacity to conduct research in the North, is the key to addressing a number of health concerns presently and over the coming years. For this reason, Gwen founded the Qaujigiartiit Health Research Centre (AHRN-NU) with the late Andrew Tagak Sr. in 2006.

Moriah Sallaffie

Youth Research Coordinator

Moriah joins our team from Nome, Alaska. At Qaujigiartiit, Moriah oversees research projects related to youth health including the Makimautiksat Camp, the Timiga Ikumajuq arts-based sexual health workshops co-developed with Qaggiavut, and other related projects.

Lily Amagoalik

Family Health Research Coordinator
Qaujigiartiit Health Research Centre, Iqaluit

Lily is a registered nurse from Iqaluit. She has experience in emergency nursing, public health, and in research. As the family health research coordinator, Lily oversees the Inunnguiniq Parenting Program, as well as multiple clinical care projects related to the health of infants, elders, and new mothers.

Taha Tabish

Health Technology Innovations Research Coordinator

Taha, originally from Toronto, ON, brings to Qaujigiartiit his experience in international development program design and management in West Africa. His Master of Public Health practicum with the Government of Nunavut focused on training and gathering feedback from community health practitioners in Nunavut surrounding lung health and tobacco use.

Lissie Anaviapik

Research Assistant and Interviewer

Originally from Qikiqtarjuaq, NU, Lissie brings a wealth of experience as a former CBC radio host and community engagement coordinator for legal aid. At Qaujigiartiit, Lissie works as an interviewer and research assistant on a variety of projects including community perspectives on cancer and maternal-child health.

Shirley Tagalik

Research Associate

Shirley Tagalik is a long-term educator and community health advocate in Arviat, NU. Shirley has been working with Qaujigiartiit on a number of community health projects exploring healthy homes and public health; parenting; and healthy living public health interventions that are responsive to community needs and ways of knowing.
